Local Law Enforcement
Roughly 50 automobiles have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postal boxes were vandalized, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they announced in a statement.
Police report they were notified during the night on Wednesday night, when a man observed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued fluid.
The fluid had been applied in the shape of a banned symbol, they added.
Officers then located many other smeared vehicles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under regulations outlawing the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement state initial examinations suggest the liquid was likely human blood.
"There is still no lead as to its source; investigators are currently not informed of any physical harm in relation with the incident," they added.
City officials said they were trying "to resolve the mystery" and have appealed to the residents for tips.
A high-ranking representative commented the vandalism made him speechless and required to be addressed quickly.
"This act hits the core of Hanau and revives the wounds of the far-right terrorist attack half a decade ago," he wrote on social media, recalling the death of nine individuals by a gunman focusing on people of foreign heritage in five years prior.
